Smoking bans continue to be
toughened on cruise ships. Norwegian Cruise Line is the latest to
prohibit it on stateroom balconies. The ban will take effect on November 1. The
company will also only allow smoking on the starboard side of The Waterfront
aboard two ships – Norwegian Getaway and Breakaway – and even then not outside
restaurants. In the casino – presumably so gamblers can calm their nerves – it
will be limited to passengers actually playing. Earlier this month it emerged
that Carnival would also introduce a balcony ban, from October 9.
