Learn the history of lacemaking is at a new
museum just opened in Bruges. The industry took off there in the 16th century
and soon began to play an enormously important role in the culture and economics of the
Belgian city. In the 19th century, religious groups also started teaching the
skill. The museum is housed in one of the former schools they founded – that of
the Apostollinnen sisters on Balstraat 16.
