Walking in central Spain

An intriguing guided walk in central Spain – perfect for spring or autumn but much to hot for high summer – has been launched by a locally based operator, Spanish ExperienceThey’ll pick you up from Madrid Airport and ferry your luggage between some tasty looking four star hotels on a 4 day/5 night hike on the GR10 long distance footpath through the Sierra de Francia, a protected natural park in Salamanca province.

The length of day walks ranges from around 9kms to 14.5kms (roughly 5.5 - 9 miles). Having not experience this operation at first hand thematuretraveller.co.uk can’t vouch for it - but can testify to the beauty of the landscape and its villages - and it looks a good bet for active senior travellers who like hiking well off the beaten track.

The trip costs €620 for each of two sharing or €720 in a single room. Flights to and from Madrid aren’t included.

I was alerted to this package by a regular online newsletter from walkingworld.com, which lists routes and allows subscribers to contribute their own suggested walks.
