Mountain resort's blanket smoking ban
The major Canadian ski ands summer mountain resort of Whistler Blackcomb will ban smoking from May 31. And I mean ban. It will be extended from any areas where it’s already outlawed to cover lifts, queues, hiking trails, valley base areas and all bars and restaurants – including patios. And it will include e-cigarettes and marijuana. “We have made the decision to introduce a smoke-free policy to preserve the pristine alpine environment our guests come here for,” says Dave Brownlie, Whistler Blackcomb’s President and CEO at. “We also recognize as a leader in the outdoor adventure and wellness industry and as the largest employer in the Whistler community, we have a responsibility to our guests and staff to provide a safe and healthy environment for work and play. We believe implementing this new policy aligns with this goal.” Staff, however, will get a year’s transition period in which they will be able to adjust in designated smoking areas. After that they’ll just have to resist the urge.
