A hotel housed in a building dating from 1500 is among those awarded this year’s Prix Bienvenu by Switzerland Tourism.
Schlosshotel Chaste in Tarasp-Sparsels in the Engadine came top in gthe “cosy leisure hotel” category. It’s Relais & Châteaux property owned by the Pazeller family which has lived locally for generations.
All five winners scored highest in online guest ratings and in the verdicts of visits by an inspection “jury”. The other awards went to:
Larger leisure hotel: Hotel Ascovilla: four star property, set in a lush garden, close to Lake Maggiore in Ascona. Has a spa.
City hotel: Hotel Garni Giacometti: Close to the Piazza Grande in the centre of Locarno’s old town.
Luxury city hotel: Bellevue Palace, Bern. Has hosted politicians and diplomats for 150 yhears. Featured in John le Carre’s spy fiction.
Luxury hotel: Hotel Villa Honegg: five star, with spa, built in 1905 on Mt Burgenstock near Lake Lucerne. At that time guests were collected from the Burgenstock funicular by horse and carriage. Underwent a major facelift four years ago
