Long distance path to open

The Westmorland and Furness Way, the 120-mile Westmorland and Furness Way ia schedulked to be opened officially on on 15 September. The signed route will take apes, guiding walkers through the North Pennines National Landscape, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Lake District National Park and alon Morecambe Bay. Usiing exiisting trails where possible, it runs from Alston - England's highest market town – in the north, to the sandstone ruins of the 900 year old Furness Abbey in the south, crossin high fells and open moorland and followin river paths. Though it would take an estimated 8-17 days to hike in full, it will be possible to get information on six separate stetches, makin day or short break walks possible.
